Arrive sufficiently early to settle & warm up (Okunos & Jeff appreciate volunteers to help set up and take down the chairs)
Water fountain & bathrooms available. Easy access to the (big, plentiful - yay) parking lot is eastbound on W Fremont, but you can enter off Hollenbeck, too.

Date: Friday, July 4th, 2025
Call Time: 9:00 AM, but arrive earlier, if possible. Parking is tight and you need time for seating, spacing, storage, etc. If you plan to leave early, consider sitting on the edge, even if it's away from your section mates.

Parking is limited, so if you're blessed with good health and a small instrument, please consider parking at or near Blue Hills Elementary School or Goleta Ave. and walking over highway 85 on the footbridge connecting Azule and Kevin Moran Parks. Thank you !
Performance Dress:
- Comfy, clean, casual, patriotic. Consider the musician behind you - No large headgear (blocks the line-of-sight to the conductor)
- Shorts are fine
- Prepare for sun exposure (sun glasses, hat, SPF lotion). You might be seated at the canopy's perimeter.
Performance Checklist:
- Music Stand (a few loaners available - contact us)
- Clothespins or other music hold-downs in case of wind (we bring a large bag of clothespins, but easier for you if you have your own)
- Instrument (loaner percussion available)
- Music (limited # of loaner packets will be at both the rehearsal and the performance)
- Sun protection: bring sunglasses, hat, lotion
- Leave loose valuables at home, not in car (e.g. purse - there's NO designated safe storage area at the park)

How much does it cost?
There is no charge; nothing to buy
Should I print out all the music?
We have only a few loaner music packets; print or e-device your music if you can
Where do I park?
There's no parking lot at Kevin Moran; just street parking. See map, above
Will there be chairs/stands?
Yes Chairs, No stands. Bring your own stand! (water will be provided on the 4th and there's a restroom in the park)
Do I need my own instrument?
We do not have loaner instruments (except some percussion, if needed)
Will there be shade for musicians?
Rehearsal is indoors. Canopy on the 4th, and folks on the edge get sun
Chairs for the audience/family members?
Only a few that are reserved for older/disabled. Bring a blanket or folding chair
There is some shade on the perimeter, but consider sun protection
Will the band march?
No. The band remains seated throughout the event
How many people typically attend?
Band is usually 75-125 strong, audience is typically 500-1,000 or more. Invite your friends and family!
I play middle-school level. Can I come?
Yes! Play the easy parts and do your best with the rest or sit back and relax if you're uncomfortable playing certain pieces or parts
Will there be things for my kids to do?
We do not have attendants for the kids, but there is a playground
Which part should I play?
We do not assign parts. Play what you wish & work with your section mates to balance out the band
Solos?
Soloists have been selected by Tadashi and Jeff
What time does it start?
Band downbeat is 9:15. The formal program is 10:00-11:00, but the band plays during the children's parade and then for another half hour or so
I need to leave early, may I still play?
Yes! Position yourself for a graceful, unobtrusive exit on the edges of the band (you may sit separately from your section, if necessary)
